Bateman spearheads R and D
Dr Stephen Bateman has joined Chip Express as Vice President of Engineering and R and D.

In his recent roles as technical advisor to a number of semiconductor startups, he formulated some strong opinions on the role of advanced gate arrays.
"Gate arrays are not going to kill FPGAs or standard cell designs", he comments.
"However, there is a big gap between FPGAs which are prohibitively expensive in volume, and the standard cell approach, which is complex and time consuming, and which requires huge volumes to amortize the large up-front NRE costs.
The industry needs an alternative, and advanced gate arrays provide the perfect, modern solution".
Chip Express' advanced gate arrays, details Bateman, are attractive to established companies looking for the most cost-effective solution, as well as emerging businesses that need to prove the viability of their concept with a real production run, without spending all the seed and Series B investment capital in one go.
Chip Express delivers silicon for worldwide applications running from a few thousand pieces and up in a choice of process geometries.
"We are a technology company, and we keep track of what's happening in the process world, but the majority of our customers don't need leading edge 90nm technology.
0.18 micron designs are starting to come through and 0.25 micron is still huge - that's where we're positioned".
Bateman concludes, "Chip Express is serious about advanced gate arrays.
The company is well funded and has a very credible management team with proven skills.
