Illuminated switches allow custom designs

C22 actuator-style Elum switches can be supplied with snap-on caps with a standard universal power symbol or a custom design.

The C and K Elum series of right-angle illuminated pushbutton switches from CandK Components is available with custom snap-on caps.

Customers ordering C22 actuator style Elum switches with or without LEDs can now specify snap-on caps with a standard universal power symbol or a custom design.

The Elum series eliminates the need for a separate LED and light pipe on a circuit board and is the only pushbutton designed so the LED travels with the actuator, ensuring even distribution of light.

"Elum saves a great deal of space on the circuit board, allowing for product miniaturisation or greater on-board functionality", says David Webber, Worldwide Product Line Manager for C and K Components.

"We're able to further increase service and value to customers with our in-house capabilities for tooling the custom caps".

The switch has a 6mm profile and is available in through-hole and surface mount configurations.

Elum features silver or gold-plated contacts that range in ratings from 0.01 to 250mA and from 20mV to 50V DC.

The latching version (push-push) can be specified for switching functions such as mode select and power on/off, while the momentary version is suitable for test, reset and notification functions.

Three versions of the Elum cap have been tooled up.

The 957C00000 version is a high-temperature black cap that can be installed at the factory or as a secondary operation after the switch has been processed to the board.

The 957C00000 caps are capable of withstanding RoHS solder profiles.

The 181D series are made out of clear polycarbonate material and paint and laser etched, making the cap easily customised.

The 181D01000 caps are paint and laser etched, while the 181D00000 versions are also paint and laser etched and feature a white paint underlay for increase visibility if the LED is not illuminated.

Elum switches are RoHS-compliant and compatible with high-speed reflow soldering processes.

The 30,000 cycle life expectancy makes Elum suitable for telecom, industrial, medical, automotive and consumer electronics.
