Taiwan-based Quanta has completed integration of E-OTD software in a GSM handset, following a tie-up with Cambridge Positioning Systems and TTPCom.
The programme - the first of its kind in the world - follows Samsung's announcement in July 2002 that it would be the first manufacturer to integrate E-OTD into a GSM handset.
Subsequently, a number of Samsung handsets have completed software integration at CPS's UK facility.
The joint development programme will provide Samsung with access to the latest technology developments for GSM, including 50m accuracy for North America and other markets.
The programme will also extend to 3G where CPS is developing its own high accuracy solution.
CPS Chief Executive Chris Wade said: "Samsung is a dynamic world leading company and we are delighted and honoured to be working with them on this exciting location technology development programme.
We look forward to developing a close and committed working relationship to drive E-OTD forward for the benefit of their customers".
