Contax will be exhibiting for the first time at the MDT (Medical Device Technology) Show at the NEC, Birmingham on 16th and 17th February 2005 On Stand 625 in Hall 10, Contax will be profiling a selection of automation solutions ideally suited to the medical and pharmaceutical industries

These will include bespoke automation solutions from Komax Systems (formerly Sibos) and MTA, incorporating a wide range of processes including inspection.

Automation provides the opportunity to increase yield and quality, ensure reliability and repeatability, achieve faster throughput and reduced production cost.

Solutions range from "islands" of automation through to a full "lights out" production environment.

Also on show, the Shuttleworth clean-room conveyor is a highly specialised system designed to work with automated technology and offers a variety of devices and specialised rollers to successfully position brittle or fragile products.

All Shuttleworth conveyors feature its Slip-Torque technology which reduces backpressure accumulation, so preventing product damage.

Finally, Phoenix X-Ray 3D inspection systems include both computed tomography (CT) and 3D laminography systems for 3D inspection.

Contax has considerable experience in the medical sector, and has recently announced two major projects.

It has partnered with Guidant Corp, a world leader in the design and development of cardiovascular medical devices, to automate the key steps in its manufacturing processes.

Contax has also installed a CT system for Imperial College to assist in a study into biomaterials.

"I believe that Contax has a natural synergy with the medical device market as we understand the challenges faced by our clients and can help them address any production or inspection issues - often by providing very specialist or bespoke solutions", explained Jan O'Connor, Managing Director at Contax.

"We work with a broad span of manufacturers that cover a wide range of processes and applications including dispensing, curing, inspection and assembly systems".

"Our engineers have detailed process knowledge up to and including: testing, with experts in the areas of software, chemistry and medical sciences".

"Combined, we can identify or develop the right products to fulfil the most complex requirements", he concluded.
