Production automation system specialist Contax is exhibiting 12 new and existing products from its extensive range at Nepcon 2005 at the Brighton Metropole on 11th and 12th May 2005 On Stand G214, Contax will be launching two new systems: Contact Systems C5/C5d intelligent pick and place and Omron VT-RNS (Renaissance) automatic optical inspection (AOI)

The C5 placement systems are ideally suited to medium volume manufacturers with frequent job changeovers.

Operating at speeds of up to 22,000 components per hour, the C5 range is very easy to program and can place a full range of SMDs from 0201 chips up to large area components of 100 x 50mm.

It has up to 192 x 8mm smart feeders, which enable a new job to be loaded onto the machine while the current batch is still running.

This ensures that batch changeover is fast and simple.

The Omron VT-RNS offers top quality, automatic optical inspection at a mid-market price.

A very flexible system, the VT-RNS can be placed at varying points on the line - post-printing, post-placement and post-reflow - to prevent defects at any specific stage of production.

Its network capability allows the remote inspection of multiple lines, whilst changes in monitoring criteria and the removal of defective boards can be undertaken without stopping the line.

Other systems available on Contax's stand include the Essemtec FLX2000 series of SMT pick and place systems, which is on display in the UK for the first time.

Modular and upgradeable, the FLX2000 series offers up to 300 feeders capable of handling a full range of components from 0201 and 50 x 50mm fine-pitch down to 0.3mm, BGA, MicroBGA and flip chips.

Other features include high production speeds of up to 15,000 components per hour and zero downtime during changeover.

Phoenix X-ray offers both 3D computed tomography (CT) and high resolution 2D/3D X-ray systems for a wide range of inspection tasks.

The Nanomex is an ultra-high-resolution semi-automatic nanofocus X-ray system for the inspection of high end interconnection technology in the semiconductor and SMT industries.

Also on show will be a wave soldering system that offers cost-effective and efficient soldering for both lead-free and leaded solder.

Aimed at entry to mid-level users, the ATF 20-33F has interchangeable roll-in, roll-out dual wave solder pots, so enabling both leaded and lead-free within the same system.

It also provides easy maintenance access to the fluxing and soldering operation which is particularly beneficial in a lead-free environment.

Optional features include spray flux configurations, air knife and a range of preheating facilities.

Available in a wide range of sizes McDry offers low humidity storage of sensitive surface mount devices.

Storing ICs in McDry completely eliminates the risk of microcracking and can be used as an alternative to baking.

The cabinets are nitrogen-free, using a powerful zeolite desiccant which is automatically recycled and does not need replacement.

A range of semi-automatic workstations and transport systems for small to medium sized systems will also be shown.

Contax can now offer a full range of systems from Sigma's "Manumation" (a combination of manual assembly and automation) through to fully automated production systems from Komax Systems, Sysmelec and MTA Automation.

Suited to both cable preparation and PCB assembly, the Werner Wirth overmoulding system can completely or partially encapsulate an device, such as a PCB, hybrid circuit or sensor to provide both electrical and mechanical protection.

It is also ideally suited for producing flexible protection around cabling at the point on entry in to an assembled product.

The Werner Wirth system uses low cost aluminium mould tools that have the added advantage of increasing the cooling rate of the moulded product.

Low temperature/low viscosity thermoplastics are used within the mould to provide a reliable and cost effective protective coating.

A range of automatic stripping machines from Komax will also be featured.

The Kappa range of machines are able to cut and strip stranded copper wire up to 95mm2 section.

Machines can be run stand-alone or can benefit from advanced features by being controlled by a PC running Komax's Kappawin software.

All wire-dependent processing parameters can be set up and saved, with up to 150 different wires or 100 individual wire sequences stored in memory.

This ensures that recurring jobs need not be reprogrammed, so saving time and effort.

The system also offers the option of wire marking with hot-stamp or ink jet markers.

Designed for moderate volume, high-mix printing, the Speedline Accuflex stencil printer offers accuracy and flexibility in a compact design.

The AccuFlex is very cost effective, and ideally suited to production runs of around 8000 boards per week with two or more changeovers per shift.

The system handles boards from 3 x 2 to 23 x 20in, and can print 12mil pitch devices with consistent accuracy.

Ideal for the precise welding of smaller gauge nonferrous metals and delicate assemblies, the Amtech Ultraweld 40 is available in the UK exclusively from Contax.

It has a welding power of 0.8kW, and offers a number of features including: a precision roller bearing slide to ensure smooth operation and accuracy, dynamic spring with preload adjustment, and the precise fine-tuning of upper and lower stops to ensure accuracy.

A benchtop robotic soldering system, the MTA TR300 is ideally suited for semi-automated soldering or dispensing processes.

The system is very compact, measuring only 700 x 720mm, and provides a working area of 300 x 300mm.

It is fully programmable using the front panel touch screen from an industry-standard PC, and offers a range of 10 different soldering and dispensing techniques.

"This year's Nepcon will be exceptional", said Jan O'Connor, Managing Director at Contax .

"We will be launching two new products - the C5 pick and place and the Omron VT-RNS inspection system - both of which are from world-class suppliers and feature exceptionally high performance and functionality at a reasonable cost".

"In addition we will be available to discuss bespoke automation solutions and we will be displaying a further 10 systems which demonstrate the latest techniques and technologies available in PCB and cable assembly".

"Our expert staff will also be on hand to provide detailed advice on the systems, problem solve any specific customer challenges and advise on individual requirements", he said.
