Production automation system specialist Contax has signed an exclusive partnership agreement with Universal Instruments, one of the world's largest surface mount suppliers.

Production automation system specialist Contax has signed an exclusive partnership agreement with Universal Instruments, one of the world's largest surface mount suppliers Under the terms of this new agreement, Contax will be marketing the range of Universal Instruments products, including its award-winning Genesis and AdVantis platforms throughout the UK and Ireland along with the through-hole assembly solutions

The new collaboration will serve to complement Contax's existing product portfolio, ensuring that it is the only UK supplier to offer a full range of SMT placement systems - from entry level to high volume.

A selection from this range, including the AdVantis and Genesis platforms, will be on show later this year at Nepcon 07.

Universal Instruments entered into this agreement with Contax following the completion of extensive due diligence.

Explained Ray Doherty, Regional Sales Manager at Universal Instruments: "We were looking to form a long-term relationship with a UK distributor that had excellent credentials and a wealth of experience in the mid and lower end markets", he said.

"From our investigations, we identified Contax as the perfect partner".

"They have a long-standing reputation for technical excellence and support, and provide total automation solutions: designing and installing production lines and integrating the various third party systems".

He continued: "We are now working closely with Contax to ensure that our customers enjoy the highest possible standards of service", he concluded.

Mike Rapson, Managing Director at Contax added: "We are delighted to enter into this partnership with Universal as their systems complement our existing offerings perfectly".

"The proven Genesis and AdVantis ranges will cater for the mid to higher end of the market, and provide our customers with greater capabilities and options".

"Universal's products are world-class, and by combining these with our technical and marketing skills, we will have a winning combination".

Contax will be marketing the following range of products.

The Genesis portfolio includes the fastest quad-gantry machine on the market with unbeatable throughput and cost performance.

Patented VRM linear motor positioning system technology powers the positioning system and the Lightning head is the fastest in the industry.

Genesis provides scalable performance with incremental units of capacity via single-, dual- and quad-beam versions for maximum productivity at all volumes regardless of product mix.

The S-series is a single-beam, dual-drive overhead gantry system for high-mix/low-volume environments; the D-series is a dual-beam, dual-drive overhead gantry system for medium-mix/medium-volume requirements; and the Q-series is a quad-beam, dual-drive overhead gantry system for high-volume environments featuring four 30-spindle rotary Lightning placement heads.

The AdVantis range is ideally suited to high-mix environments, offering excellent flexibility and high accuracy in an affordable system.

AdVantis is a single-beam overhead gantry system, with dual-drive lead-screw positioning, one micron resolution linear encoders and a compact footprint.

Multiple configurations are available, ranging from 0603mm (0201) to 55 x 55mm with single field of view and a maximum PCB size of 457 x 508mm (18 x 20in).
