Budget pricing for powerful debug tool

A Computer Solutions product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Dec 3, 2003

The Cyclone Pro is a low-cost but powerful debugging tool that supports development on four different processor families: the 68HC08, 68HCS08, 68HC12 and 68HCS12.

The Cyclone Pro is a low-cost but powerful debugging tool that supports development on four different processor families: the 68HC08, 68HCS08, 68HC12 and 68HCS12.

This highly versatile unit will connect to a PC via serial port, USB or Ethernet interfaces, and will operate as a BDM or MON08 debugger or as a stand-alone programmer.

Key features include automatic baud-rate and frequency detection of the target, compatibility with 2-5V targets, initialisation of MON08 configuration on reset, and Windows or automated programming.

Control of power sequencing of the target helps to manage security access when flash memories are being programmed.

The Cyclone Pro can be used in four different modes.

First, with Windows-based assemblers, source-level debuggers (assembler and C) and a Flash programmer, it can be used to debug code by providing access to the registers and memory, as well as having the ability to set breakpoints and run the CPU at full speed, slowly or in single-step mode.

Secondly, support for the Cyclone Pro is being provided by a number of leading C compiler manufacturers within their C debugging environments.

Thirdly, the CPROG software package, included with the Cyclone Pro, will allow completely automated programming of the target system.

It operates according to a user-defined sequence, and returns "success" or an error code when called from another application or batch file.

Fourthly, the unit can be linked to a PC for downloading a target program and then disconnected.

It then becomes a stand-alone BDM-based flash programmer for on-chip memory or, in the case of the HC12/S12, for on- or off-chip memory.

The Cyclone Pro costs only GBP 325 (plus VAT).

Computer Solutions can also supply full development kits containing software, development board, interfaces and cables for the HC08, HCS08, HC12 and HCS12.
