Computer Solutions has released an enhanced version of the CMX-Micronet TCP/IP stack offering SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) and wireless Ethernet 802.11b functionality as well as supporting additional processors As well as adding the 68HCS12 and dsPIC to the long list of 8 and 16bit chips that can run MicroNet, a version is now available to support the increasing number of single-chip ARM CPUs

Computer Solutions describes Micro-Search as the definitive, unbiased and free web-based selection guide for the 8051 family of microcontrollers.
The new SNMP addon option is a memory-efficient, highly portable, complete software development kit designed for embedded systems developers requiring remote network management as provided by SNMP V1 or SNMP V2c for their applications running on processors with limited memory resources.
The SNMP implementation features a very small footprint which is suitable for inclusion in the internal memory of single-chip processor designs already supported by CMX-MicroNet.
As a result, it provides system designers and software developers with a simple, cost-effective means to create a wide variety of hardware devices that can connect directly to corporate networks.

Tools support budget background debug mode
Microprocessor development tools specialist Computer Solutions has been appointed European distributor of BDM (background debug mode) tools for P and E Microcomputer Systems.
The SNMP option requires as little as 8Kbyte of memory on an 8051, involves no memory management or multitasking features, and supports set, get, next, trap and getbulk functions.
Code is implemented to facilitate the request-response mechanism of SNMP.
The wireless Ethernet option supports the IEEE802.11b protocol, allowing the TCP/IP stack to be integrated into Wi-Fi systems operating at 2.4GHz with datarates up to 11Mbit/s.
The initial release supports the Intersil Prism 2.5 wireless MAC.
The driver can be used in infrastructure mode (using an access point) or in ad hoc mode (without an access point.) CMX-MicroNet is a TCP/IP software stack that provides low-cost Internet access for a wide range of embedded microprocessors.
Unlike other Internet-enabling solutions, it allows TCP/IP and other protocols to be run directly on the embedded processor without the need for proprietary protocols, gateways, or additional hardware.
CMX-MicroNet provides direct serial links, PPP based modem communications, Ethernet or 802.11b drivers.
A web server application that runs on the micro can use any of these to talk to a normal PC-based browser using the HTTP protocol.
The user can then set values on the micro, cause functions to be executed and read back variables displayed by the browser.
In this way, full access to the micro is provided via the browser's familiar Windows graphical user interface.
