Supercapacitors slim for PC Card
applications
The world's first commercially available ultra-thin flat supercapacitors use innovative aluminium foil-polymer laminate packaging to achieve a market leading thickness of less than 1mm.
The world's first commercially available ultra-thin flat supercapacitors use innovative aluminium foil-polymer laminate packaging instead of the conventional thicker metal can material to achieve a market leading thickness of less than 1mm Combined with the option of high energy density or ultra-low ESR to meet specific requirements, the new design is ideal for a host of space-critical applications such as PCMCIA cards, hand-held devices and hybrid battery-supercapacitor packs

Lower profile for shielded inductors
The Coiltronics SD10 range of drum core inductors combine an industry-leading profile of less than 1mm with 14% higher current saturation and 34% smaller footprint than any equivalent device.
Inductors have wide ranging specifications
The Colitronics branded range of DRQ components can be used as a single inductor or in coupled inductor/transformer applications.
The PowerStor Series F low-ESR capacitors were developed initially for GSM/GPRS applications, including wireless PCMCIA modems.
Ultra-thin devices are particularly important for Type II PCMCIA cards which are only 5mm thick, with a two sided 1mm thick circuit board and a supercapacitor height restriction as low as 2mm or less.
Devices in PCMCIA specification allow less than 1A of current to flow from the notebook battery to the PC card and for GSM/GPRS transmissions, up to 2A.
GSM mode involves transmission for approximately 0.6ms every 4.6ms and lower currents in receive and standby modes in the remaining 4ms.
The supercapacitor is charged by excess battery current for 4ms between the 0.6ms discharges.
Under GPRS protocol, transmission rates are double to quadruple the transmit times of GSM.
Although low ESR is the primary design criterion to minimise the voltage drop from the supplied voltage to the power amplifier, Series F supercapacitors provide significantly more capacitance than other capacitor technologies to satisfy GPRS's extended pulse length.
