Coventor is to open four MEMS design training centres in China to teach the practical benefits of CoventorWare software tools to new and existing users.

Students will receive hands-on training beginning this fall.

The 3-5 day training sessions will be taught by MEMS industry experts at universities across the country beginning with Peking University in the autumn.

Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications, South East University in Nanjing and University of Electronics, Science and Technology in Chengdu will be added in the upcoming year.

The training centres will be equipped with CoventorWare software suites and will be maintained by IMAG Industries, Coventor's certified distributor in China.

"Creating MEMS training centres is a major step toward standardising MEMS research and design in China", said Sunming Cheung, President of IMAG Industries.

"The government of China has endorsed CoventorWare as the MEMS design software of choice, providing designers a convenient and effective venue for developing expertise in MEMS".

The Chinese Government chose Coventor as the preferred MEMS software provider as part of the China MEMS 863 programme, in early 2004.

This quickly resulted in CoventorWare becoming the standard for MEMS design tools in China.

The MEMS 863 programme provides funding and incentives to universities and commercial companies conducting research and development in MEMS technology.

"China made a bold move by initiating advancements in MEMS technology and standardising MEMS design software countrywide", said Director of Asia Pacific Sales, Benjamin Blackwell.

"With the Government's endorsement, Coventor is building a strong presence in China by training top researchers and designers on the powerful design capabilities of CoventorWare".
