The RL4 CompactPCI SBC from Crellon Microsystems features Motorola PowerPC 7400/75x technology with processing speeds up to 500MHz, a 32bit cPCI interface and PCI-PCI bridging for increased application throughput.

Designed for embedded applications in markets such as industrial, medical, imaging, scientific, telecommunication, military and aerospace, this high-performance SBC is available in the UK through Crellon Microsystems' new distribution agreement with SBS Technologies.

Onboard features and peripherals include 10/100Base-T Fast Ethernet, RTC, watchdog and four counter timers, four serial channels with RS-232 and RS-422/485 interfaces, 32Kbyte nonvolatile SRAM, temperature sensor and PMC expansion.

Also offered is up to 128Mbyte SDRAM, 64Mbyte of Flash and up to 2Mbyte L2 cache, together with I2O intelligent I/O support.

The PMC expansion slot enables the board to satisfy many diverse requirements within its single-slot 3U CompactPCI configuration.

Operating system support includes VxWorks, and LynxOS.

Further options make the RL4 CompactPCI SBC suitable for mission critical applications in harsh environments such as avionics platforms, where its small size and PMC expansion capability enable several I/O configurations such as Mil-Std 1553 or 429 to be used in a single-slot 3U form factor.

These options include extended temperature capabilities (-40 to +85C), conformal coating, stiffener bars and wedge locks for enhanced shock and vibration immunity, and conduction cooled configuration.

Conduction cooling is employed in boards or modules destined for harsh and rugged applications, where standard convection cooling is inadequate.

SBS Technologies believe that the RL4 is the first product to meet the VITA (VMEbus International Trade Association) 30.1 standard, which ensures that boards designed for conduction cooled applications are mechanically interchangeable, and compatible with both conduction-cooled and air-cooled commercial 3 or 6U x 160mm, 2mm HM Euroboard racking systems.
