PMC module takes four functions onboard
Crellon Microsystems has a PMC module that combines the capabilities of four separate I/O modules on a single PCI mezzanine card for VMEbus and CompactPCI CPU boards.

Embedded controller allows direct access to ATM
The Interphase 4531, available in the UK from Crellon Microsystems, allows system integrators to access the ATM backbone without requiring an external CSU/DSU.
Embedded motherboard configured for connectivity
The PATX3070 Pentium-class motherboard, now available from Crellon Microsystems, combines AGP graphics capability with a range of powerful interfaces.
The Acromag PMC730 delivers analogue input, analogue output, digital I/O and counter/timer functions on a single PMC card.
This high level of integration potentially replaces four other I/O boards with a single mezzanine module, while leaving room in the card cage for other boards.
Benefits include system cost reductions, as well as significant space savings.
These are especially valuable where small backplanes with limited capacity must be used to meet physical size limitations.
When using boards with two PMC slots, the high density PMC730 also leaves room for another PMC module to provide other specialised functions such as graphic imaging or networking.
Major applications include data acquisition, process control, test and measurement, motion control, and network data communication.
Extended temperature models are also available for operation from -40 to +85C, allowing many further markets to benefit from the PMC730's arrival.
The PMC730 has 16 differential (or 32 single-ended) input channels for analogue input functions, with four selectable unipolar and bipolar input ranges up to 10V DC.
There are eight analogue output channels, each with +/-10V signal range.
Sixteen TTL transceivers are provided, for digital I/O tasks.
The input/output direction is selectable on an eight-channel basis, and a 32bit counter/timer is also provided on-board to support a broad range of functions.
Acromag's ActiveX (OLE) controls software package eases integration of the PMC modules with Windows 95/98/ME and NT/2000 applications, and Acromag C libraries for VxWorks and other operating systems are also provided to enable connectivity with real time software application programs.
With its rugged design, open architecture, and high performance, the PMC concept is ideal for a wide variety of I/O applications, and the PMC730 significantly extends the range and complexity of applications that can be successfully and cost-effectively addressed by VMEbus and CompactPCI architectures.
