A new low-cost software and hardware package enables educational establishments to provide a group of students with free access to industrial application programming tools.

Cambridge Microprocessor Systems (CMS) has introduced a new, low cost software and hardware package that enables educational establishments to provide a group of students with free access to industrial application programming tools.

Educational establishments are able to make unlimited copies of the royalty-free development tools for a one off payment of GBP 495.

The easy-to-use package runs under Windows 98, Me, XP, 2000 and NT4 and allows the student to develop application software.

The student hardware pack consists of a QF-200 embedded controller, onboard operating system, power supply and interface cable, all available for GBP 95.

The package is ideal for students to experience both writing software and working with electronic hardware.

The software allows direct access to timers, counters, pulsewidth modulation ports, serial peripheral interface (SPI) ports, LCD controllers, serial ports and digital I/O.

It is easy to add additional hardware to the controller using the 68K expansion bus, SPI and I2C buses.

The structured programming package enables users to program in C, assembler or a mix of the two and provides C source level and symbolic assembler level debugging.

The multitasking, real-time operating system with interprocess communication and modular design will allow software drivers to be loaded as required.

The finished application code can then be tested and debugged on the hardware.

When complete the application code can be run turnkey on the hardware in stand-alone mode.

The student can use the debugged software for control, monitoring, logging, remote data acquisition and very low power applications.

All documentation is provided in PDF format allowing student programmers to view it on a PC and CMS provides free, unlimited support.

Embedded controllers from CMS, are used in a wide range of industrial, military and commercial applications.
