Daewoo Engineering and Construction has purchased a Concurrent iHawk Intel Xeon multiprocessor powered by RedHawk Linux for its next generation wind tunnel data acquisition and analysis test system.

Daewoo Engineering and Construction Co has purchased a Concurrent iHawk Intel Xeon multiprocessor powered by RedHawk Linux for its next generation wind tunnel data acquisition and analysis test system Daewoo E and C will use the high-performance iHawk as a real-time data collection system to measure and evaluate wind pressure on large industrial plant structures

The iHawk turnkey solution includes Concurrent data acquisition and control software and pressure management application software developed by Concurrent Nippon Corporation, Concurrent's Japanese subsidiary.

The dual-processor iHawk contains 256 analogue-to-digital data acquisition channels linked to micro-differential pressure sensors and amplifiers for simultaneous sampling of wind data.

Concurrent iHawk systems are powered by one to eight Intel Xeon processors, up to 32Gbyte of memory, and PCI I/O in rack-mount and tower enclosures.

iHawks are true symmetric multiprocessors that run a single copy of Concurrent's RedHawk Linux real-time operating system.

RedHawk Linux provides fast response to external events, optimised interprocess communication, and high I/O throughput needed for time-critical applications.

RedHawk Linux, compatible with the popular Red Hat distribution, has gained acceptance as a leading real-time Linux operating system for high-performance, simulation, data acquisition and industrial control applications throughout the world.

According to Warren Neuburger, Concurrent ISD President: "We are very pleased that our iHawk was selected by Daewoo for their latest wind tunnel data acquisition application".

Neuburger added: "Daewoo is one of many Concurrent customers that have seamlessly migrated from our previous-generation proprietary platforms to our new COTS-based iHawk".

"For years we have relied on Concurrent systems for wind tunnel testing to improve our engineering designs", said Han-Young Kim of Daewoo E and C.

"We choose Concurrent because they offer a total solution including sensor amplifiers and pressure measurement software".

"Concurrent's next-generation iHawk will allow us to quickly take advantage of advanced technology without re-engineering".
