Point-of-load convertor family spreads its power
Celestica has expanded its Volant Series of DC/DC convertors with new output programmable 5 and 10A nonisolated point-of-load solutions.
Using independent designs, Celestica Power Systems and Cherokee International will include a common form factor and pinout in their portfolio of DC/DC convertors, as well as a functionally equivalent feature set.
The products, to be released later in 2004, will be approximately half the length of the existing eighth-brick form factor and smaller than any other product currently released as a sixteenth brick.
Celestica's S-Class DC/DC convertor and Cherokee's SB Series are both designed to meet a 28 x 23 x 9mm form factor.
Expected to deliver up to 141W/in3 as well as 25A at 1.5V, models will be available in PTH and SMT packages.
In addition, the S-Class will offer an attachable heatsink option to meet system thermal needs.
The collaboration will help to drive the standardisation of this new and innovative footprint, and will maximise flexibility for OEMs by enabling multiple sourcing for their system designs.
"Our collaboration with Cherokee will help to address the compatibility and multiple sourcing issues that our customers face", said Kulbir Dhillon, Director Business Development, Celestica Power Systems.
"Our goal is to meet the evolving needs of our customers by introducing standardised footprints and packaging that delivers maximum flexibility and minimum supply chain risk".
Mike Wagner, VP of Marketing, Cherokee International added: "Our tier one customers are looking for guidance and execution to product road maps that addresses their concerns for standardisation while still maintaining leading edge technology and cost effectiveness".
Celestica and Cherokee both plan to release the sixteenth-brick products later in the year.
