CTL Components has a multiturn encoder with an interchangeable bus interface design, which allows a single encoder body to be combined with a wide variety of different field bus systems.

CTL Components has introduced a new multiturn encoder that features an interchangeable bus interface design, which allows a single encoder body to be combined with a wide variety of different field bus systems according to the requirements of the application Manufactured in Germany by IVO, the new Multivo programmable shaft-mounting encoder enables control designers and OEMs to benefit from greater flexibility and reduced stocks, while maintenance costs are reduced because of the separate sensor and bus interface electronics

Suitable for use in a wide variety of motion control applications, Multivo offers an extensive range of encoder interfaces, including Profibus DP, CANopen, DeviceNet, Suconet K, Interbus, SLCbus and Lightbus.

The appropriate bus cover with its integrated electronics is simply plugged on to the encoder body and secured by means of screws.

The new encoder provides 29bit resolution, with 16bit for the number of turns and 13bit for the angle information - equivalent to 65,536 turns at a resolution of 8192 angular steps per turn.

Scaling, sense of rotation and preset values can be set via the bus, together with code and cycle times.

Using IVO's patented Touchless-Encoder Principle, Multivo operates without any mechanical gearbox, so there is no mechanical wear and tear even at high speeds of up to 10,000rev/min.

The encoder features an extremely robust design and will operate reliably without the need for additional anti-shock devices.

It has a diameter of just 58mm and an overall length of only 89mm, making it easy to install even in confined spaces.

The new Multivo encoder complies with the relevant European standards for electromagnetic compatibility and can be used in ambient temperatures ranging from -20 to +80C.

Supply voltage range is specified as 10 to 30V DC, and maximum current consumption is 100mA at 24V DC.
