A third Speedprint SP880avi solder printer installed at the CIL factory in Andover means that all three production lines are now completely interchangeable.

Custom Interconnect (CIL) has installed a third Speedprint SP880avi solder printer at its new factory in Andover This new system, which includes 2D inspection, means that all three fully automatic SMT lines installed at CIL over the past 20 months are now fitted with an inline Speedprint SP880avi printer

This has resulted in an improvement in production flexibility and throughput because all three lines are now completely interchangeable so that any product can be used on any line.

John Boston, Managing Director of CIL said: "Over the past two years, CIL has seen a dramatic increase in the complexity and size of its assemblies as its new customers have all required large PCB assemblies predominantly double sided using 0402/0603 components and BGAs/FPGA throughout".

"This has resulted in CIL having to continually invest in new equipment to be able to process very complex product and in terms of SMT, that all starts with solder print".

"If you do not get the solder print correct all processes afterwards are much more difficult and as we are now processing PCB assemblies with a component count in excess of 1700 off components, some of which are now 0201 components, it is vital that you use the very latest equipment".
