The award ceremony was held at the London Hilton, Park Lane on 29th September 2006 where John Boston, Managing Director of CIL, received the award from John Guy, UK head of industrial manufacturing at KPMG, a leading provider of professional services including audit, tax, financial and risk advice, the sponsor of this category.

Every aspect of operational and manufacturing performance is analysed during a long and intensive investigation by industry experts.
The citation that accompanied the award highlighted that CIL has replaced 95% of its equipment over the past five years, the company's ability to manage change, the modern, clean environment on the shop floor and the high levels of motivation of the staff.
Another important factor was CIL's determination to develop its own products manifested by the innovative work in designing a range of products using new, high power LED technology developed by the company.
Boston said: "It is a great honour that CIL has been voted as the best small company in the UK".
"We consider this award as recognition of the high levels of investment that we have made over the past few years to stay ahead and grow when many of our competitors are standing still or in recession".
The report from Cranfield School of Management summed up by saying: "When investment, flexibility and simplicity on the shop floor are combined with customer focus it isn't difficult to connect why CIL is the Best Small Company this year".
