Placement machine upgrades SMT capabilities

CIL has upgraded its SMT capability by installing a new Tyco Mirae 1030 SMT placement machine.

CIL, the Andover based electronics manufacturing and design company, has upgraded its SMT capability by installing a new Tyco Mirae 1030 SMT placement machine.

All three SMT lines at CIL now incorporate a Mirae 1030/1025P combination, a Speedprint SP880avi vision printer and a RoHS capable reflow oven.

They all have dual placement capability for high feeder count assemblies and can be used with lead free components.

The total compatibility between all three lines provides greater flexibility in work loading and higher throughput.

John Boston, CIL Managing Director, said: "We are now dealing with far more complex assemblies than ever before as this is the type of work that is staying in the UK rather than going offshore".

"In addition, we are seeing a significant return of higher volume work coming back from offshore and this equipment set up is able to handle both types".

"We are now dealing with hundreds rather than tens of components per assembly and the dual placement facility can handle 150 different component types rather than 70".

"Using the new machines means that we do not have to handle multiple machine setups and capacity planning is improved as all three lines are now fully compatible and products can be run on any one of three lines allowing us to reduce lead times".
