Eaton Corp has signed a technology licensing agreement with Iconics, the leading provider of web-enabled, OLE for process control (OPC)-based software Eaton will integrate Iconics' OPC solutions with its Cutler-Hammer PowerNet suite of next-generation power metering and protection products

For the first time, this will provide users in the discrete manufacturing industries with a single, integrated solution to control all industrial automation/control applications and manage power consumption from any PC on the network, speeding product time to market and improving energy efficiency.

Eaton's PowerNet solutions enable manufacturing organisations to manage their power costs, analyse power quality and effectively track and schedule maintenance on electricity distribution devices, to increase the efficiency of energy consuming products and reduce wasteful energy practices.

Eaton will license Iconics' Genesis32 (for Windows 95, 98, 2000 and NT) and Pocket Genesis (for Windows CE) for its Cutler-Hammer solutions.

Genesis32 and Pocket Genesis are OPC client applications utilising Microsoft's state-of-the-art ActiveXT, COM/DCOM, ADO/OLEDB and Microsoft DNA enabling technologies.

"Eaton's Cutler-Hammer business is a respected manufacturer of quality products for the industrial automation market.

By combining Iconics technologies into Eaton's next generation of offerings, we are providing a powerful solution that meets the needs of the knowledge workers in the industrial automation market", said Clive Walton, UK Sales Manager at Iconics.

"Genesis32 and the WebHMI are a perfect fit for such well-designed industrial hardware as Eaton's Cutler-Hammer product line".

David Sturge, Eaton's UK Marketing Manager added: "Web-enabled technology and the OPC plug-and-play standard are becoming increasingly key components in the UK discrete manufacturing market.

This partnership with Iconics has offered us the opportunity to leverage the open, web-enabled architecture of the Genesis family to bring a new generation of integrated industrial automation and power management solutions to manufacturing organisations".
