Embedded OTP design runs on AMI foundry
Cavendish Kinetics has fully qualified its embedded one-time programmable (OTP) solution on AMI Semiconductor's foundry process.
Cavendish Kinetics has fully qualified its embedded one-time programmable (OTP) solution on AMI Semiconductor's foundry process.
In addition both companies announced that they will be pursuing customer opportunities for using Cavendish Kinetics' embedded OTP solution for AMI Semiconductor's foundry technologies.
As the Cavendish Kinetics technology is based on mechanical structures, many problems and issues encountered with other embedded NVM products do not apply.
The Cavendish Kinetics OTP solution can be programmed at native voltages, has significantly higher performance while requiring much less energy for programming, can operate at up to 200C, is completely radiation hard, and has compatibility with all other embedded process options and any existing IP.
Ignace Borde, AMI Semiconductor's Foundry Business Unit Director, said: "We are pleased to see the full qualification of the Cavendish Kinetics' technology".
"We believe that with all of the technology advantages and reliability, numerous customers will see significant opportunities for embedding this OTP in the RFID, trimming, medical and additional markets".
Cavendish Kinetics' reliability testing, using the highest automotive testing standards (AEQ-100), has resulted in no failures.
Additionally, the embedded OTP is silicon proven, showing no effect on the other CMOS structures on chip, so that requalification of other CMOS IP blocks is not required.
In addition to internal qualification efforts, many of the tests were also performed at an external facility considered to be preeminent in the industry.
Dr Mike Beunder, Cavendish Kinetics' CEO, said: "Cavendish Kinetics is privileged to be working with AMIS".
"Given Cavendish Kinetics' OTP benefits of low-power, high-performance, temperature insensitivity, ability to place bits or blocks anywhere on the die, programming in the field and high reliability plus AMIS' eminent foundry solutions, we believe this is a winning combination".
