Cyan Technology opened its new office in Hong Kong last month with a traditional Chinese Tao ceremony.

Cambridge-based microcontroller vendor Cyan Technology opened its new office in Hong Kong last month with a traditional Chinese Tao ceremony.

The company, which claims to have the most rapidly configurable 16bit microcontroller available, employed a Feng Shui Master to help with the office design and timing of the event.

Paul Barwick, Cyan's Sales Director, commented: "Currently over 60% of our rapidly growing business is coming from China and Taiwan and, as well as establishing a firm base in the region, it is very important to conform to the Chinese way of doing things right from the start".

Heading up the Hong Kong office is ex-Fujitsu Sales Manager, Dominic Lun, who will initially be supported by four field applications engineers and an administrator.

The exact time of the ceremony, 1530 on Sunday 29th May, was calculated by the Feng Shui Master as being the optimum for Cyan, given the semiconductor nature of its business.

He also advised on the office layout, specified the colour scheme and positioned small pieces of Jade around the office to ward off evil spirits.

The ceremony, which concluded with the traditional cutting of ribbons by the directors of Cyan, was attended by 30 people including Cyan's distributors, major customers and professional advisers.
