He will report directly to Christopher Seams, Cypress executive VP for technology development and wafer fabrication.
"As an internationally recognised expert in the education and application of statistical tools Jake Sredni brings to Cypress extensive experience in process enhancement and optimisation across a wide range of industries - oil, checmical, pharmaceutical, food and medical devices", said Seams.
"He also possesses first-hand knowledge of semiconductor processes, having worked with firms such as Cypress, Intel, ST Microelectronics, National, Chartered and Philips as a consultant for the past 25 years.
We're looking forward to capitalising on his background as he joins Cypress full-time to further improve our industry-leading business processes and productivity".
Sredni received a BS degree in chemical engineering in 1964 from the UNAM (Mexico).
He also received a masters degree in 1967, and a doctorate degree in 1970, both in applied statistics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he studied under the renowned statistician Prof George EP Box.
Previously, Sredni worked at Chevron Oil Company as a corporate statistician.
At Signetics (now Philips Semiconductors) he was promoted from corporate statistician to manager of the corporate analytical group.
He founded the Resource Optimisation Institute in 1981 and has been recognised as a leading teacher and implementer of business statistics in the forecasting of economic data, statistical process control, the design of experiments, and the continuous improvement process.
