With a wide range of offerings, Elektromed is the world's largest supplier of electronic metering devices that monitor gas, water and electricity usage.
As an increasing number of European municipalities deploy prepaid utility systems to reduce administrative overhead and prevent overdue bills, Elektromed is the first company to offer four types of prepaid electronic meters as an alternative to traditional mechanical meters.
Each of these meters can be combined into a single, integrated prepaid system.
Today, Elektromed has deployed 650,000 prepaid gas meters and 100,000 electricity meters equipped with optical ports.
"Elektromed is addressing the challenges posed by the evolving utility marketplace", said John McDonald, Vice President of Marketing for Cypress MicroSystems.
"By taking advantage of the capabilities and flexibility of PSoC devices, Elektromed has demonstrated significant advantages over other metering system architectures based on traditional, fixed-function microcontrollers.
We look forward to a growing relationship with Elektromed and expect that their designs will spur adoption of the PSoC family in this and other markets".
"The integrated analogue and digital resources of a PSoC device provide a one-chip solution for our metering systems, which would otherwise require external components", said Ercan Ertas, Engineering Director for Elektromed.
"By using Cypress MicroSystems' unique IC, we are able to reduce the number of components in our product by 17% and shorten our development cycle by re-using design elements across our entire product line".
