Available now in volume, WirelessUSB LS is dubbed the industry's most-affordable 2.4GHz radio SoC.

Cypress Semiconductor has also released a WirelessUSB LS development kit.

With a transmit-only device (CYWUSB6932) priced starting at $1.95 in 100,000-unit quantities, and a transceiver version (CYWUSB6934) beginning at $2.20, WirelessUSB LS offers manufacturers and end-users of wireless PC human interface devices (HIDs) video game console peripherals and remote controls the best combination of performance and cost versus competing wireless technologies.

WirelessUSB LS devices communicate at distances of up to 10m, with an average latency of less than 4ms and a transmission rate of 62.5Kbit/s.

Featuring a highly integrated radio transceiver plus digital baseband on a single chip, the technology enables designers to significantly reduce development time, component count and system cost while improving operating range, power-consumption and latency.

Operating in the 2.4GHz global ISM band, WirelessUSB LS also allows customers to deploy their solutions worldwide, regardless of regional frequency requirements.

The development kit (CY3632), priced at $750, features two radio modules that connect directly to two prototyping platform boards; comprehensive WirelessUSB protocol code examples; and a WirelessUSB "listener" tool with associated schematics, Gerber files and bill of materials.
