Cypress's CY7C53120L8 and CY7C53150L controller chips enable sensors and actuators used in LonWorks-based industrial control and building automation applications to be networked and connected to the Internet.

The new low power devices deliver up to two times the memory of 5V pin-compatible alternatives while reducing power consumption by 33%.

Cypress's new Neuron devices include a hardware-based serial communications interface (UART) and serial peripheral interface (SPI) engine that is scalable to 2.5Mbit/s, and a programmable low voltage inhibitor (LVI).

The CY7C53120L8 features 16Kbyte of ROM, 4Kbyte of RAM and 8Kbyte of internal EEPROM and is offered in 32-pin SOIC and 44-pin TQFP packages.

The CY7C53150L incorporates 4Kbyte of RAM and 2.7Kbyte of EEPROM and uses an external memory interface that can address up to 56Kbyte.

It is available in a 64-pin TQFP package.

Both devices feature three 8bit pipelined processors that enable concurrent processing of application code and network traffic at speeds of up to 20MHz.

They also offer in-system programming via an 11-pin configurable I/O block and a flexible five-pin communications port that can be configured to interface with a variety of 5 and 3.3V media transceivers over a wide range of data rates.

Additionally, both are supported by Echelon Corp's NodeBuilder 3.1 development tool.

Cypress's CY7C53120L8 solution is priced at $3.80 and the CY7C53150L is priced at $3.10 in 10,000-unit quantities.

Both products are available today.
