A novel automated platform enables designers to quickly test WirelessUSB-enabled products without the need for expensive RF test equipment.

The Cypress Semiconductor WirelessUSB Manufacturing Test Kit (MTK) is an automated platform that enables customers to quickly test their WirelessUSB-enabled products without the need for expensive RF test equipment Cypress's new MTK (CY3631) is an automated RF test platform that enables developers of WirelessUSB-based devices to test their products in a manufacturing environment

The MTK integrates into the RF test flow during board- and system-level manufacturing, providing a convenient, cost-effective method for early detection of assembly-level failures, including missing components, bad solder joints and pin-to-pin shorts.

The MTK simulates a limit-of-operation condition using a shielded test texture and enclosure.

The kit includes: a test fixture; a variety of cables and adapters; six fixed 50ohm attenuators; an SMA 2.4GHz antenna; a power supply; and a CD-ROM with firmware and documentation.

"Cypress's WirelessUSB test kit takes a lot of the headaches out of RF fabrication", said Deepak Sharma, Senior Product Marketing Manager in Cypress's Computation and Consumer Division.

"It allows our customers to quickly catch most of the problems that crop up when manufacturing RF devices".

"The MTK is faster to use than other RF testing techniques, so it increases productivity and reduces operating expenses in addition to improving product reliability".

"The wireless MTK is an industry first and underscores our commitment to provide solutions and not just products".

WirelessUSB, which is based on a patent-pending, frequency-agile, direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) data transmission technique, offers a unique combination of robust performance, low power, low latency and immunity to interference from sources such as cordless phones and Wi-Fi devices.

With a transmission range of up to 10m, it can be deployed as a point-to-point or multipoint-to-point solution.

Operating in the 2.4GHz global ISM band, WirelessUSB technology allows customers to deploy their solutions worldwide, regardless of regional frequency requirements.

WirelessUSB technology provides designers with a highly flexible architecture that reduces development time, component count and overall system costs.

The CY3631 WirelessUSB Manufacturing Test Kit is available now to beta customers with full availability expected later this quarter.

The kit is priced at $995 in single-lot quantities.
