Serial interface engine provides USB 2.0 for MCUs
Cypress Semiconductor has expanded its USB 2.0 product line with the introduction of the EZ-USB SX2 intelligent serial interface engine (SIE).
The CY4636 RDK, which includes the WirelessUSB protocol for best-in-class interference immunity, can also be used for development of additional Human Interface Devices (HIDs) such as presenter tools, remote controls, and PC game pads.
The WirelessUSB LP RDK includes a compact wireless mouse, a feature-rich wireless keyboard, and a small form-factor bridge, each enabled utilising Cypress's Encore II family of Flash MCUs.
To further streamline the development process, it also offers kit documentation, hardware schematics, bill of materials, development tools, and flexible firmware for adding customised features.
Manufacturers can easily copy the reference designs exactly, and only need to add enclosures to produce ready-to-ship devices.
The designs do not require any special USB drivers.
"The RDK's extremely low-component wireless keyboard, mouse, and dongle are enabled by utilising Cypress's Encore II family of flash MCUs and WirelessUSB LP", said Marcus Kramer, Director of Cypress's HID Business Unit.
"It makes it easier than ever to quickly produce low cost and low power plug-and-play wireless devices that take full-advantage of the extremely robust WirelessUSB LP 2.4GHz solution".
The CY4636 WirelessUSB LP RDK includes all the following items: a WirelessUSB keyboard - 101 keys with buttons to support multimedia and shortcut keys.
Uses Cypress WirelessUSB LP (CYRF6936) and wireless Encore II (CY7C60123) Flash MCU; a WirelessUSB mouse - three-button, ergonomic mouse with Avago 3040 low-power optical sensor; a WirelessUSB bridge - simple and small form-factor bridge; and a WirelessUSB LP RDK CD-ROM - provides kit documentation, hardware schematics, bill of materials, development tools, tutorials, and firmware for wireless keyboard and mouse development.
The CY4636 WirelessUSB LP reference design kit is currently available and is priced at US $199.00.
