A simple guide aims to assist electronic component buyers to identify lead free components from major manufacturers.

Cyclops Electronics has produced a simple guide to assist electronic component buyers to identify lead free components from major manufacturers.

The introduction of the WEEE and RoHS Directives has been the subject of a great deal of speculation, and a lack of direction, which has hindered its implementation throughout the industry.

Some component manufacturers have been slow to react, whereas others have seized the opportunity.

With interpretation left largely to the industry itself there has been the usual explosion of ideas about how to identify compliant or lead free components.

This simple guide will help readers identify how some major manufacturers are currently denoting lead free components.

Beverley Scott, Head of Marketing at Cyclops Electronics says: "Our aim, as always, is to be involved in the supply of electronic components, wherever we can help most".

"People have looked to us for direction in minimising the impact of the introduction of these directives".

"We are uniquely positioned to help any company with implementation, whilst reducing, or eliminating, unexpected costs and to provide a reliable supply of compliant components".

"Any company involved in product design, manufacturing or sales, will benefit from the information in this free guideline leaflet".

Unfortunately, even though a part is certified as lead free, this does not guarantee that the part is RoHS compliant.

Now, with the help of this new guideline leaflet, and perhaps for the first time, many companies can have direct, relevant and impartial advice on the selection of lead free components.
