SmartXtend driver ICs go on display

A Dialog Semiconductor product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Oct 29, 2008

Dialog Semiconductor has announced that its SmartXtend technology-based driver ICs will be used by TDK as part of its PMOLED video display demonstration using a 3inch W-QVGA panel.

The display takes place at the FPD International exhibition in Yokohama, Japan, on 29 to 31 October.

The displays are targeted at main displays in mobile phone and portable media consumer devices, overcoming the performance limitations of LCD and active matrix OLED displays.

SmartXtend technology allows the main displays of mobile devices - particularly those offering W-QVGA and QVGA resolution - to utilise passive matrix OLED displays rather than LCD or active matrix OLEDs.

SmartXtend is designed to significantly extend the lifetime of passive matrix OLED displays; according to Dialog Semiconductor it reduces the peak current greater than 30 per cent and power consumption by as much as 50 per cent compared to the conventional passive matrix driving schemes.
