Automotive programming system, based on the PS Series platform, is tailored for OEM and Tier 1 and 2 manufacturers of automotive electronics systems.

Data I/O Corp will introduce its new Automotive Performance Programming System at the APEX exhibition in Los Angeles, 20th to 22nd February 2007 Data I/O's new automotive solution, based on the PS Series platform, is tailored for OEM and Tier 1 and 2 manufacturers of automotive electronics systems

Enhanced software features help automotive production lines meet the stringent requirements for programmed electronic systems including quality, traceability and cost control.

The automotive electronics market is expected to grow to US $35 billion by 2010.

Several major factors contributing to the increased number of programmable semiconductors used in automobiles include the availability of lower cost component parts, making sophisticated electronics for infotainment, safety systems, and advanced navigation options affordable in mainstream vehicles.

Environmental and legislative mandates addressing fuel efficiency, child safety, airbags, and environmental/emissions are also driving growth in electronics systems.

Data I/O's Automotive Performance Programming System includes key features in process control and configuration management, creating a complete solution dedicated to meeting the needs of automotive manufacturers.

The PS FlashCore remote monitoring application provides managers or clients responsible for production processing residing in remote locations a real-time direct link to the programming activities on the factory floor.

A manager or OEM customer can view up to five networked programming systems and monitor the current production activity and yield statistics.

The PS Extended Job Log for SPC tracking provides detailed information regarding every motion of a device during the programming process, in a delimited-text file that can be imported into a traceability database or proprietary SPC (statistical process control) tool for analysis and quality management.

FlashCore version control for PS systems creates an "archived job" file containing references to all software components used in the approved first article release, assuring that future production runs conform to original approved programming specifications.

"For the first time, production managers will have strict configuration control over data file and programming task management", said Megan Miller, Automotive Segment Manager at Data I/O.

"Our key customers in the automotive industry tell us that change management and traceability are critical challenges, and the Automotive Programming System was designed specifically to address those needs".

The Automotive Performance Programming System is available on the PS588 or PS288 series platforms.

The PS588 platform can be configured with an optional ICOS CompactLIM lead inspection system, combining programming and 3D inspection into one seamless process.

The coplanarity check ensures all programmed devices fall within coplanarity tolerances and for lead pitch and slant.

The result is that only the highest quality programmed devices in conforming packages are used in production.

The new PS Automotive Programming Systems are now available.

System pricing varies depending on media handling and programmer options.

Software upgrades are available for existing PS series programming systems.
