Java FPGA core avoids the usual code bloat
Embedded Java specialist Digital Communication Technologies has made available its Lightfoot Java processor in the form of a programmable core for Xilinx FPGAs.
Webster joins from Infineon Technologies, where he was Senior VP and General Manager of Cores and Modules - the division responsible for microcontroller, processor and DSP cores.
He brings extensive experience of managing and developing successful microprocessor business lines, gained during a 16-year semiconductor career with Infineon, Motorola and STMicroelectronics.
During his time with Infineon, he was responsible for initiating the company's IP licensing strategy, and returning the microcontroller business unit to profitability.
"This is a defining time for embedded OEMs - they can see huge markets opening up, but they are simultaneously facing enormous design and lifecycle challenges", says Webster.
"Java has the answers, but only if it can be successfully adapted to run in constrained system environments.
I believe DCT has the know-how to bring that technology to market".
