DDE will showcase Supermax ECAD's unique capabilities in designing with embedded passive components next month at the PCB Design Conference West and at the IPC Printed Circuits Expo.

DDE will showcase Supermax ECAD's unique capabilities in designing with embedded passive components at the PCB Design Conference West in San Jose, on 12th-13th March 12-13 and at the IPC Printed Circuits Expo in Long Beach, on 25th-27th March Supermax ECAD is an award-winning layout solution for PCB, MCM, hybrid, and advanced packaging design

Embedded components are gaining ground as a cost effective means to challenge growing demands for faster, cheaper, and of course, smaller.

"In order to design efficiently, creating, placing and editing embedded components must be as commonplace as handling discrete components.

They have to be managed as ordinary components and substantial Design Automation support is required in order to minimise design times", say DDE's Product and Technical Manager, Per Viklund.

DDE's Development Group interpreted these needs and the result is an impressive list of automated functions targeted at real-world design issues for implementation of embedded component technology.

"Supermax ECAD has an inherent understanding of embedded passives and provides an effective platform for design of embedded passive components, capacitors, resistors, inductors and transformers.

By use of parametric components automatically synthesised from schematic values, design times are dramatically reduced", says Jannich Thorsen, DDE's Development Manager.

Working closely with Ohmega Technologies, producers of Ohmega-Ply thin-film embedded resistor technology, has allowed DDE's development team to gain insight into the handling of embedded resistors.

The synthesis takes nominal value, trimable range, tolerance, power rating, aspect ratio and geometry into account.

The generated resistors can be interactively edited with dynamic feed back of the resulting resistance.

"It has been our experience that the lack of a comprehensive design tool for embedded Ohmega-Ply resistors is the biggest concern of today's design engineer.

The introduction of an Ohmega-Ply option in Supermax ECAD is a significant step forward in addressing these concerns and opens the way for rapid design and use of Ohmega-Ply in today's demanding printed circuit applications", says Bruce Mahler, Vice President of Ohmega Technologies.

Supermax ECAD's task driven methodology and user interface approach, makes it possible to become highly productive in less time than has traditionally been possible.

A comprehensive design kit for embedded passives is available and together with sample designs and an instructive tutorial design guide, technology introduction is made fast, flexible, and correct.
