In 2002, the Apex exhibition, technical conference programme, specialised training courses and gala awards was attended by 11,000 (visitors and exhibitors) electronics assembly professionals from all over the world, and was addressed by Chris Israel, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy and advisor to President George W Bush, and Donna Shirley, former manager of NASA's Mars Exploration Programme.
Rich Heimsch is president of DEK International, the leading provider of preplacement SMT process and technologies.
Based in Zurich, Switzerland, he has been instrumental in building DEK's global position since joining the company in 1988.
Born and educated in the USA, Heimsch was formerly DEK's worldwide distribution manager and moved to Zurich in 2000 with the creation of DEK International.
Asked to comment on his new role, he said: "Apex has achieved tremendous success though its fundamental recognition of the need for a strictly focused electronics exhibition and by creating a program that provides tangible value for exhibitors, conference delegates and visitors alike.
