Richard Heimsch, president of DEK International, has accepted an invitation from the IPC SMEMA Council to chair the Apex steering committee.

Richard Heimsch, president of DEK International, has accepted an invitation from the IPC SMEMA Council to chair the Apex steering committee Apex, the IPC SMEMA Council's Electronics Assembly Process Exhibition and Conference, opened in March 2000 as an industry-driven forum focusing on electronics assembly products and technology

In 2002, the Apex exhibition, technical conference programme, specialised training courses and gala awards was attended by 11,000 (visitors and exhibitors) electronics assembly professionals from all over the world, and was addressed by Chris Israel, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy and advisor to President George W Bush, and Donna Shirley, former manager of NASA's Mars Exploration Programme.

Rich Heimsch is president of DEK International, the leading provider of preplacement SMT process and technologies.

Based in Zurich, Switzerland, he has been instrumental in building DEK's global position since joining the company in 1988.

Born and educated in the USA, Heimsch was formerly DEK's worldwide distribution manager and moved to Zurich in 2000 with the creation of DEK International.

Asked to comment on his new role, he said: "Apex has achieved tremendous success though its fundamental recognition of the need for a strictly focused electronics exhibition and by creating a program that provides tangible value for exhibitors, conference delegates and visitors alike.

From its inception, the industry led steering committee helped establish the event as informative, vibrant and compelling.

I'm delighted to be invited to contribute to building Apex 2003".
