ARM board hosts embedded Linux
development

Direct Insight has begun shipments of a comprehensive embedded Linux development kit based on the Atmel AT91RM9200 microcontroller with ARM920T core.

Direct Insight has begun shipments of a comprehensive embedded Linux development kit based on the Atmel AT91RM9200 microcontroller with ARM920T core The entry level kit including SBC and breakout board with Linux installed and running is priced at just GBP 595 or Eur 865

The development kit uses Cogent Computer Systems' latest miniature OEM board, the CSB637, in conjunction with Microcross GX-Linux, a comprehensive new suite of software tools including a complete Linux 2.6 board support package (BSP) for the Cogent board.

There is an optional JTAG emulator from EPI, and support from Direct Insight.

The Cogent CSB637 OEM board frees developers from the risky task of designing with Micro-BGA, blind via and 5mil track technology, and allows them to accelerate projects with confidence.

Measuring just 45 x 64mm, the CSB637 forms the core of any low power, high performance device such as an intelligent front panel, networked building controller, medical life signs monitor, or industrial Ethernet to machine interface.

The Cogent board supplements the Atmel microcontroller's functionality, which includes 10/100 Ethernet, USB, dual SDIO, four UARTs, SSI, SPI and Compact Flash Interfaces, with 64Mbyte SDRAM and 8Mbyte Flash, an onboard LCD/CRT controller, 10/100 PHY and efficient 3.3V regulator.

This combination makes the CSB637 the ideal engine for any size restricted, low power or battery operated application.

Microcross' GX-Linux comes with development tools, a BSP for the Cogent uSBC, and much more.

The package includes the Visual X-Tools IDE, the Gnu X-Tools distribution of GCC toolchain with Visual GDB and GDB Server, as well as the Linux v2.6.x kernel and BSP including source code.

The package also includes uClibc shared and static library for embedded development, ROM or remote NFS Filesystem, BusyBox utilities, and Linux Drivers including I2C, serial I/O, USB host, SD/MMC, TCP/Ethernet, CompactFlash and real-time clock.

Standard GX-Linux development kits include development board, toolchain, and basic BSP functionality - everything needed to begin application development.

Also available are Professional GX-Linux kits, priced at GBP 1750, is aimed at system developers and including all the elements needed to customise the BSP, with the Visual X-Tools toolsuite.

The top-of-the-range Enterprise version includes a host computer on a 1U rack-mountable chassis, a pre-installed and preconfigured software development environment, and complete target remote debugger solution.

A developer can simply plug-in and begin application development and debug.

Other packaged options include JTAG debug using the EPI-Majic Lite emulator, and various levels of Linux development support from specialist Direct Insight - from basic e-mail startup through to comprehensive annual telephone assistance. Request a free brochure from Direct Insight ...
