Support package aids mobile graphics development
Sophia Systems has released its Gold board support package based on Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 for Sandgate II development platforms running the Intel PXA270 processor and 2700G multimedia accelerator.
Built with the co-operation of a number of software/middleware makers and parts manufacturers, this development platform will permit the engineer to simultaneously develop hardware and software, thereby achieving overall development time reductions.
Unlike the typical embedded development board, Sophia's Sandgate series PXA reference kits come with much more than the usual rudimentary board support package (BSP).
Instead, Sophia has established an extended eco-environment approach, offering a solution much closer to a final product by providing integrated services including OS migration/BSP as well as middleware of various types, plus drivers for installed parts on the PXA reference boards.

Timing analysis speeds data interface design
Chronology has expanded its TimingDesigner interactive timing analysis and timing diagram product to include tighter integration with vendor-specific board design and FPGA flows.
In co-operation with telecommunication software vendors engaged in state-of-the-art development, the introduction of the new platform has achieved a fusion of embedded and middleware technologies, making it easier for embedded development engineers to add telecommunication functions to their final product offerings.
On-chip debugging is possible thanks to integration of Sophia's EJ-Debug JTAG emulator for PXA3xx.
The Watchpoint debugger running on a host PC and connected to the EJ-Debug unit is equipped with advanced functions such as source level debugging, branch trace reconstruction and access to specific functions of the PXA built-in register sets via a special window.
Additional functions for directly downloading a program to Flash ROM are provided.
EJ-Debug can support debugging within the various OS development environments, such as Visual Studio, Windows CE/Platform Builder etc.
The EJ-Debug unit is connected with the host PC via USB and is bus powered.
The PXA310 processor is the newest processor made by Marvell and meets the latest needs for multimedia performance, by combining high processing power and low power consumption with on-chip video acceleration.
Important applications of Sandgate III-P include the development and evaluation of handheld terminals or IP phones, and also the development and evaluation of applications software and middleware, research and development of user interface technology, field verification of mobile phones and handheld terminals, and systems development and verification, as well as practical evaluation and demonstrators for handheld terminals aimed at enterprise applications.
