Rugged controller majors on multimedia
The AEC-6850 ruggedised control unit is the latest member of Aaeon's successful Boxer series.
Special features include: RTC with battery backup, LCD backlight control and a proprietary expansion bus.
Aimed at rugged, cost-sensitive mobile applications, the module has been specifically designed to meet the growing demand for such devices to provide similar features and performance to that which end-users are already accustomed to enjoying on their desktop equipment.
With this in mind, the Gene-1270B features impressive power-saving properties along with an ability to support rich multimedia applications.
The Intel XScale PXA270 processor is the first of its kind to offer Intel Wireless MMX technology, a high-performance and low-power 64bit single instruction multiple data (SIMD) facility capable of giving a performance boost to a whole range of applications.
These include motion video, graphics combined with video, image processing, speech synthesis and both 2D and 3D graphics.
It has also been developed to be particularly user-friendly, with a commonality of technology that software developers will be familiar with and which is easily applied to the needs of a wide range of mobile applications.
The module offers two COM ports (one RS232, one RS232/485), four Host USB 1.1 ports and one Client USB 1.1 port, for connecting and controlling peripheral devices, with both CF and SDIO expansion slots for even greater flexibility.
Performance is guaranteed with a CPU frequency of 533MHz.
Designed to support Windows CE 5.0, further features include an audio port, a JTAG port for programming, onboard Intel StrataFlash 32Mbyte solid-state storage, support for four-wire resistive touch screens and a wide power input range of +9 to +24V DC.
An operating temperature range of 0 to +70C makes it well-suited for rugged applications.
The Gene-1270B RISC CPU module is available now from Display Solutions.
