Kontron has equipped its Car-PC CV-Server with the Intel Pentium M processor, part of the Intel Mobile Centrino technology.
One of the PCI/PCI-X buses is used internally for interconnection with the PMC slot and USB host controller, while the other PCI bus uses the cPCI backplane interconnection.
When configured as system controller, the C900 Series is capable of supporting up to six additional cards on the cPCI backplane, providing clock, arbitration and interrupt capabilities.
The C900 Series offers six standard variants of I/O capabilities including multiple choices of two Gigabit Ethernet ports, two high-speed serial communications ports, two USB 2.0 ports and up to eight general purpose discrete I/O channels (eight single-ended or four RS422 differential channels).
The boards are is also equipped with a PMC slot for additional modules and functionality, further increasing the board's capabilities.
All boards in the C900 Series are available with complete operating system board support packages for VxWorks and Integrity real-time operating systems, including drivers for all onboard resources that enable a user to take full advantage of the board's powerful features.
Incorporating the low power version of the advanced Freescale MPC7447A PowerPC microprocessor with a large integrated on-chip L1 and L2 cache, the C900 SBC operates at 1.167GHz at the industry's widest temperature range.
In addition, it provides AltiVec support allowing the user to take advantage of the processor's real-time vector processing capabilities.
The board's robust memory capacity includes up to 1Gbyte of fast DDR SDRAM with error-check-and-correction (ECC) protection, 64Mbyte of user Flash, 32Mbyte of boot Flash, up to 1Gbyte of Flash file (NAND Flash) and 128Kbyte of NVRAM for user/application specific parameter storage.
The NVRAM features a hardware autostore technology that stores NVRAM contents on power fail detection.
The C901 and C901L rugged 3U Compact PCI single board computer family members also introduced by Diamond Point integrate powerful next-generation Freescale MPC7448 PowerPC processors with on-chip L1 and enhanced L2 caches and AltiVec Technology.
The power-saving C901 and low power version C901L have uprated processing performance of up to 1.4GHz and broader memory and I/O options than the C900.
Otherwise facilities and functionality are the same as the C900 SBC.
A fully functional C901 with 512Mbyte DRAM operates at a typical power consumption of 24.0W at 1.4GHz processor speed.
The C901L version reduces that power consumption to less than 17.0W (at 1.0GHz) for applications where power dissipation concerns are more critical than processor speed.
For additional power savings, both variants offer a user-programmable dynamic frequency switching mechanism that reduces processor speed when processing demands are low.
This permits an optimum balance between processing power and energy conservation, giving the C901 and C901L the best power/performance ratio of any rugged 3U Compact PCI available on the market today.
The C901 and C901L provide up to 1Mbyte of on-chip cache memory, 200MHz memory buses, 1Gbyte of DDR SDRAM with ECC protection, 128Mbyte of user Flash, 64Mbyte of boot Flash, up to 2Gbyte of NAND Flash file memory and 128Kbyte of autostore NVSRAM.
A further family member available from Diamond Point, the C903 entry-level board incorporates the low power 600MHz IBM 750FL PowerPC processor and 100MHz 60X bus, but otherwise offers the same facilities and functionality as the C900 SBC.
