Display Technology, the official sole UK supplier of Samsung industrial TFT panels, has begun shipping products from Samsung's newly opened second seventh-generation (7G) line.

Samsung Electronics has begun shipping 32 and 40in LCD TV panels produced on the new line.

The panels are being shipped to Europe, China and Korea.

The new line (7-2) was opened on 1st January 2006, and Samsung expects it to reach a first phase full capacity of 45,000 substrates by the end of June.

Samsung now has two 7G production lines manufacturing LCD TV panels, whereas its competitors have yet to begin shipping any 7G TV panels in volume.

Samsung is pushing for its 40in standard, using state-of-the-art 7G substrates (1870 x 2200mm).

Display Technology Product Manager Nick Shaw says: "Samsung's head start in this area gives it an edge in the market in these sizes and our customers are seeing this advantage in terms of price and quality".

According to a forecast from market-research firm DisplayBank, about 2.6 million 40in LCD TV panels will be shipped this year.
