Fanless SBC for embed-and-forget applications
The TS486 is a new module in the DSP Design range of high performance, PC/104 processor boards.
The TS486 is a new module in the DSP Design range of high performance, PC/104 processor boards.
Providing many features and a full set of peripherals, this highly capable and flexible processor is extremely cost-effective and designed to suit the most demanding applications.
Using the STPC Atlas chip operating at up to 133MHz, this 486 processor includes a maths coprocessor for fast number crunching and provides a choice of SDRAM modules to match memory needs.
Drivers for CRT and TFT LCD panels are provided, as are four serial ports, IRDA and two USB ports as well as 10/100Base-T Ethernet for network communications.
The printer port can also be used for GPIO.
A speaker, keyboard, mouse and a four-channel 12bit A/D convertor are also supplied as standard equipment.
The board can be used on its own, in a stack of PC/104 boards or in a customer-designed system as a "super-component".
A fast IDE port allows CompactFlash cards or other disk drives to be attached, and there is an onboard solid-state disk drive with ROM-DOS preinstalled.
As with all processors from DSP Design, a watchdog timer resets runaway programs and CMOS settings can be saved and restored from nonvolatile serial EEPROM.
Because batteries and fans are not required the MTBF of the processor is significantly increased and this is a key feature in an embedded PC that must be able to run for years with no maintenance.
In order to reduce product time to market a DSP Design LaunchPad application development kit that supports the TS486 is available with Windows CE.NET loaded and ready for the customer's application program to be downloaded.
This ensures that customers can begin developing application software immediately.
DSP Design has been at the forefront of embedded computing for over 18 years and as a Microsoft Gold Partner can provide a high level of support for Windows XP Embedded and Windows CE.NET projects.
The TS486 is designed, manufactured and supported in the UK at the company's headquarters in Chesterfield.
