Mezzanine card for complex signal processing

A 4DSP product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Apr 6, 2007

PCI-X and PCI-express mezzanine card has dual Xilinx Virtex-4, four optical transceivers, and optional A/D, D/A and video capabilities for data acquisition and high-performance signal processing.

The FM482 from 4DSP is a PCI-X and PCI-express mezzanine card (PMC/XMC) with dual Xilinx Virtex-4, four optical transceivers, and optional A/D, D/A and video capabilities.

"Combining the strength of the different Virtex-4 families (FX, SX and LX) with a flexible architecture for data acquisition, processing and high bandwidth communication has been the determining idea leading to the FM482" says Pierrick Vulliez, 4DSP's CTO.

"Our experience in delivering high performance solutions in a small form factor is helping our customers to meet today the ever more challenging requirements of tomorrow's systems".

The FM482 expansion card comes with large SRAM and DRAM resources, ultrafast PCI-X and PCI-express DMA engines thus making it suitable to be a data acquisition and coprocessor unit for demanding signal-processing algorithms.

In addition to the 4x Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel ports available on the front panel, several I/O modules such as camera link, A/D and D/A (up to 1Gsample/s) can be fitted on the back of the card to add more capabilities.

By shifting the workload from motherboard to mezzanine card while offering parallel-processing capabilities, 4DSP breaks away from conventional processing architectures and opens up the path for high-performance systems consuming less power.

The FM482 is part of the FM48x PMC/XMC series with Virtex-4 and Virtex-5 Xilinx FPGAs.
