Island provides cost-effective single switches
The Peel-and-Place PushGate Island provides cost savings for applications that use individual pushbutton switches under a hard keycap or plunger.
The Peel-and-Place PushGate Island provides cost savings for applications that use individual pushbutton switches under a hard keycap or plunger.
In the Duraswitch Peel-and-Place PushGate Island construction, switch element modules can be individually placed on a flex circuit or printed circuit board without the additional wiring and soldering associated with alternative single-key switches.
This offers a cost-effective alternative to snap-action or mechanical switches.
Peel-and-Place Island construction consists of adhesive on the bottom side of a standard Duraswitch Island, which bonds the island to the circuitry.
A Tedlar seal on the top protects the switch from contaminants such as dust and moisture.
Peel-and-Place Islands can be used with various actuators including plastic, metal and elastomer.
By outsourcing the manufacture of the modules in volume production, assembly costs will be kept low by eliminating die cutting and tooling for each individual licensee.
"Peel-and-Place offers an alternative for our licensees to integrate single switches cost-effectively.
One example where Peel-and-Place has been used is the actuating mechanism of a trigger switch on a retail barcode reader", said Tim Kuhn Vice President Business Development, Duraswitch.
"Alternative technologies were not durable enough for the abuse this product would receive.
Peel-and-Place provided a cost-effective solution for the licensee to incorporate the PushGate technology.
The end customer benefited by having all of the advantages of durability and tactile feel associated with PushGate".
"Another application that would benefit from Peel-and-Place is a beverage dispensing machine where a customer pushes a cup against a bar to activate the switch and start the flow of liquid.
Often snap-action switches are used and hardwiring the switch to the PCB can drive up costs.
Peel-and-Place Island on flex circuit provides a cost-effective alternative", said Kuhn.
