Normally closed switch stars for spa makers
Duraswitch PushGate pushbutton technology has been selected for the switch mechanism in two projects for spa controls.
Duraswitch PushGate pushbutton technology has been selected for the switch mechanism in two projects for spa controls.
These projects are the first design wins for PushGate in this market.
Duraswitch's licensee, Japan-based Ishii Hyoki, is manufacturing an individual stop button using the normally closed PushGate construction and Australia/New Zealand-based Markit Graphics has designed a multiple switch control panel using the PushGate product line.
Naoaki Kanao, Executive Director, Ishii Hyoki commented: "Our customer was looking for a normally closed switch with the benefits these type of switches offer".
"Most switches are normally open and are momentarily closed when the user presses the button to actuate the switch".
"Normally closed switches have a constant flow of low current running through the switch".
"The flow is broken when the switch is pressed".
"Normally closed is a much more reliable product".
"While a normally closed option is available with mechanical switches, it is a typically not an option for traditional, flat-panel membrane and dome technologies", said Tim Kuhn, Duraswitch Vice President Business Development.
"Because the PushGate armature is held in place magnetically, normally closed is a simple option".
"As more end users realise the benefits of normally closed switching we anticipate this option becoming more of a standard".
"PushGate's ability to provide a sealed switch and its overall durability are strong selling factors for the spa marketplace", said Nigel Davies, Managing Director for Markit Graphics Australia.
"The switching controls have long been an area of weakness for spa manufacturers".
"Our customer has just completed their six month field test of the Duraswitch product line and is very pleased with the performance of the panels within this hostile environment".
Duraswitch PushGate is unique patented pushbutton technology that combines the advantages of discrete mechanical and flat-panel membrane switches into one design.
Using the simple combination of a metal actuator and a permanent magnet, PushGate offers superior tactile feedback that does not degrade over time or use.
Because it uses the natural force of magnetism instead of flexing domes or springs, PushGate is substantially more durable than conventional switch technologies.
Kuhn added: "PushGate is an ideal alternative for spa controls over other types of tactile pushbuttons".
"It is a versatile technology that gives the tactile feel the customers want, coupled with the durability the market demands".
