IPC's widely used "Desk reference manual for component identification" (DRM-18) has gone digital.

IPC's widely used "Desk reference manual for component identification" (DRM-18) has gone digital ER-18 is a new "electronic reference" and training tool that contains many features not possible in the printed version

For instance, it incorporates the ability for users to add their own company-specific text for any component and then update all user versions instantly.

The "add text" mode also allows for translation into any language supported by the Windows operating system, and users can add as many languages or as much company-specific text as they need.

Users can even add their own custom photos or graphics to illustrate components or processes specific to their facilities.

ER-18 allows users to attach up to five company-specific images on each component page.

An automated colour band calculator is also supplied, to help eliminate operator guesswork when determining resistor and inductor values.

The user simply selects the appropriate colour for every band and reads the value in ohms or microhenries.

The IPC component ID electronic reference for surface mount and through-hole components is user-friendly.

The simple graphical interface makes it easy to find any component type - even if English is not the primary language.
