Dy 4 Systems has a Linux software development kit (SDK) for its SVME/DMV-181 single board computer and the Champ range of PowerPC-based DSP products.

Dy 4 Systems has a Linux software development kit (SDK) for its SVME/DMV-181 single board computer and the Champ range of PowerPC-based DSP products.

Developed by TimeSys Corp of Pittsburgh, USA, the Linux SDK is a certified Linux development environment including a full Linux distribution with kernel enhancements and performance modules that make TimeSys Linux a true real-time operating system.

"With the TimeSys Linux SDK for our SBC and DSP products, we are providing our military and aerospace customers with a complete package combining full Linux capability with true real-time performance", said Stewart Dewar, Dy 4's Product Marketing Manager.

"This creates a software and hardware solution for high performance systems for use in a wide range of harsh environment applications, such as the recently announced Future Combat System (FCS) for US Army transformation".

The SVME/DMV-181 is one of Dy 4's family of PowerPC single board computers.

Based on a 500MHz MPC7410 PowerPC device with Altivec enhancements, it offers 2Mbyte of L2 cache, up to 1Gbyte of SDRAM memory with ECC, 48Mbyte of 64bit-wide Flash EPROM, two PMC mezzanine sites, dual 10/100Mbit Ethernet ports, SCSI, six serial ports, discrete I/O and two USB ports.

Champ DSP boards are based on quad MPC7410 PowerPC devices, include two PMC mezzanine sites for I/O connectivity and are available in VMEbus or CompactPCI form factors.

TimeSys Linux is available to developers as a royalty-free, open-source off-the-shelf product, reducing development time and costs.

Complete support is provided for the SBC and DSP products to the edge of the board with certified drivers for the on-board functionality and I/O.

"Today's complex, real-time VMEbus systems integrators are looking for low risk solutions and tangible productivity gains during their development programmes", said Larry Weidman, TimeSys CEO.

"The combination of Dy 4's industry-leading single board computer and ready-to-run, royalty-free Linux RTOS answers these issues for them".

The SVME/DMV-181, CHAMP DSP products and TimeSys Linux are available now.

A freely available TimeSys Linux board support package (BSP) for the SVME/DMV-181 is available from www.TimeSys.com.

Full software development kits with extensive hardware drivers and crosscompiler toolchains are also available.
