The new module is based on a Via ESP6000 667MHz processor, with an LCD interface, a 144-pin SODIMM socket supporting up to 512Mbyte of SDRAM, AC97 audio, four bus master PCIbus interfaces, and one ISAbus interface.

Evalue's SOM (system on module) technology is based on a two-part solution.

The SOM-ETX CPU module provides complete PC functionality within a 114 x 95mm outline, and functions as a highly integrated component mounted onto any SOM-ETX-compliant carrier board through four 100-pin high-density connectors.

As all the core components are included within the SOM-ETX module, system integrators can focus on customer specific baseboard development without having to worry about changes in CPU and chipset technology.

This not only reduces the time and cost of product development but also ensures an extended life span for the baseboard.

Customers have the option to develop their own baseboards or to use Evalue's BPS baseboard prototyping service, which promises working hardware within 30 days.

Further features of the ESM-2643 include support for two IDE channels, a floppy disc drive interface, two 16C550 equivalent TTL serial ports, one shared multimode parallel port and four USB ports.

A further design option is to mount the CPU module on Evalue's EAP-EX61 the PISA-bus half-size SOM-ETX carrier board, providing a ready-to-use scalable half-size PISA bus CPU card.

Evalue has a full series of SOM-ETX modules featuring low-energy-consumption NS Geode (ESM-2440), high-speed Via Eden (ESM-2643) and Intel Mobile PIII processors (ESM-2640 coming soon).

This provides designers with a flexible CPU platform with scalable system performance, a streamlined product development process and reduced time to market.
