Solid electrolyte capacitors live longer
Samwha Electric UK has introduced a new high reliability series of solid electrolytic capacitors for long-life applications up to 50kh.
Samwha Electric UK has introduced a new high reliability series of solid electrolytic capacitors for long-life applications up to 50,000h.
Offering a low impedance at high frequencies, and a low ESR, the capacitors are ideal for use in the smoothing circuits of switched-mode power supplies in many applications.
These may include many industrial uses or for consumer products, such as laptop computers and modems for WAP phones.
The solid electrolyte also displays excellent frequency characteristics for noise reduction and improved tone quality in audio amplification circuits.
The Samwha Electric FX Series of compact radial capacitors is available in values from 2.2 to 330uF 6.3 to 25V, with an operating temperature range from -55 to +105C.
The solid organic semiconductor crystal electrolyte avoids the drying-out problems of standard electrolytics, affording capacitor use for up to 50,000h at 85C, compared to those of standard aluminium electrolytics which have a typical maximum load life of 5,000h at 85C.
The characteristics of the solid electrolyte also provide great stability of capacitance, impedance and ESR with changes in temperature.
The FX not only has low impedance at high frequencies, but its low ESR enables it to handle high ripple currents.
A 47uF 16V product, for example, measures just 9.8mm high x 6.3mm diameter, has a maximum ESR of 60mW at 20C 100-300kHz and will withstand ripple currents of up to 2040mA RMS at 45C 100kHz.
