Solid-polymer electrolytics for low ESR
Samwha Electric UK has reflow-solderable 105C solid conducting polymer capacitors in both SMD and a radial leaded outlines.
Samwha Electric UK has reflow-solderable 105C solid conducting polymer capacitors in both SMD and a radial leaded outlines.
The use of a conductive polymer greatly reduces the ESR at high frequencies while retaining small case sizes, and provides excellent stability across the temperature range.
Thus they are ideal for portable equipment, particularly video and audio applications.
The Samwha Electric FA leaded and FC chip-type aluminium electrolytic capacitors utilise a solid conducting polymer electrolyte.
They can be used in temperatures up to 105C, the solid nature of the electrolyte ensuring a long operating life as there is no liquid to dry out.
The radial-leaded FA series offers capacitances in the range of 4.7 to 150uF from 4 to 16V DC.
The FC surface-mount series is available in values from 2.2 to 15uF, 6.3 to 16V DC with a footprint of just 7.3 x 4.3mm.
Both are reflow solderable, and offer low impedances and low ESRs at high frequency.
For example, at 1MHz, the impedance of a typical FA capacitor is about one-fiftieth that of a standard aluminium electrolytic and one-tenth that of a tantalum capacitor.
The solid electrolyte also displays excellent frequency characteristics for noise reduction.
A typical 33uF 4V leaded FC capacitor is just 6.8mm high with a diameter of 5mm.
The ESR is only 80mohm maximum when operating at 100kHz at 20C.
As well as their use in handheld equipment, the capacitors are ideal for the smoothing circuits of switched-mode power supplies and a wide range of consumer electronic products.
