Electrolytic capacitors go under the bonnet
A new series of RoHS-compliant long-life miniature aluminium electrolytic capacitors are designed to cope with the high thermal stresses associated with confined automobile engine spaces.
Samwha Electric UK has introduced a new series of RoHS-compliant long-life miniature aluminium electrolytic capacitors which have been especially designed to cope with the high thermal stresses associated with confined automobile engine spaces.
Complying with the requirements of ISO/TS 16949:2002, they are designed for low impedance applications in localised electronic control units at temperatures up to 130C.
Capacitors capable of withstanding the high temperature stresses that are associated with automotive engine compartments allow the positioning of electronic control units close to where they are applied, rather than at some distance away in the passenger compartment.
This helps promote weight reduction and improve fuel efficiency - a constant demand for automotive manufacturers.
The new Samwha Electric VA Series of through-hole electrolytic capacitors are available in values from 1 to 2200uF, 10 to 63V.
They have a rated load-life of 4kh at 130C for those of diameter 10mm or above.
Dimensions vary between 8 and 16mm in diameter, and heights from 11.5 to 25mm.
A 100uF 35V capacitor, for example, has a maximum impedance of 0.22ohm at 20C and 100kHz, and measures 8mm diameter by 11.5mm height.
For surface mount applications on high density PCBs in similar conditions, the recently introduced Samwha Electric UC Series of electrolytic capacitors offer reliable operation at up to 125C.
They are also certified to TS16949 for automotive applications, and are available in a range from 10 to 330uF, 10 to 50V.
Maximum heights are 10.5mm above the board, with footprints of 10.5 x 10.5mm.
