The Eazix EZGPM01 comes in a fully shielded small dimension package of just 25.4 x 25.4 x 3mm, designed for easy integration into mobile devices such as PDAs, cellular phones and telematics solutions.
It operates on low power consumption and supports easy application development.
Through standard frames, the GPS receiver provides position, altitude, velocity and time data via a serial interface to the host, allowing the system to generate positioning, navigation, fleet-tracking and asset-tracking information.
Eazix President and CEO Arthur R Tan says: "The LBS market presents many opportunities for growth across applications in mobile computing, consumer electronics, automotive systems and wireless communications, as more OEMs offer higher value services, such as user location-based information to their customers as a way of differentiating their products".
According to industry research, more than 77 million mobile users worldwide currently use LBS and the number is expected to increase to 400 million by 2005.
Telematics is the largest market for LBS, growing from its current $1-2 billion to more than $15 billion by 2005.
Chicho Mantaring, Eazix Head of Platform Development, says: "In the future everything that is mobile, including electronic mobile solution as well as commercial and private vehicles will have positioning, tracking and navigational capabilities, and with the Eazix GPS module we are able to offer our OEM customers a fast and reliable embedded solution".
